The Millionaire Fastlane by M.J. DeMarco
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The author is a jerk of the highest degree. He is brash, boastful, belittling and does not paint a full picture. The book is poorly written. But his direct style and lack of etiquette maybe be exactly what is needed to burst the bubble that a lot of people live in.
He successfully drives home the fundamental fact that if you have any fancy material dreams of drive a Lamborghini and living in a palatial estate or retire early, there is no real possibility to do so if you work for someone else. In which case, your only chance is to put in the work and hustle 5+ years to build your business. When done correctly, the system you create will work for you or give you an opportunity to exit with enough money that allows you to choose whatever you want to do with the rest of your life. This is the premise of the book and is the only takeaway. Rest of it is recycled garbage. He tries to build 5 fastlane commandments like how bible tries to do, but fails to a good job. The examples and anecdotes are poor.
Having said that I think it’s still a great read for ambitious folks to reassess their financial goals, “wannapreneurs” sitting on the fence, students who are confused on whether to take that $80k student debt or someone starting their careers.
The medicine tastes shitty but it might be exactly what a patient like you need. So I would recommend this book.
